Lyles College of Engineering

High School Students

As a high school student, you may often wonder what lies ahead, and what major you should choose in college. If you are a student that would like to innovate, serve society, lead, help grow the economy, invent new products, and make a difference in people's lives, you should consider becoming an engineer or a construction manager.

“No profession unleashes the spirit of  innovation like engineering. From research to real-world applications, engineers constantly discover how to improve our lives by creating bold new solutions that connect science to life in unexpected, forward thinking ways. Few professions turn so many ideas into so many realities. Few have such a direct and positive effect on people’s everyday lives. We are counting on engineers and their imaginations to help us meet the needs of the 21st century.” National Academy of Engineering, 2009

There are several ways in which you can learn more about the exciting opportunities that an engineering or construction management education brings. Talk to your teachers, counselors and family about your interest. You should also visit the Lyles College of Engineering to talk to students, learn about the hands on projects that they are working on, for example, a Human Powered Vehicle. Baja Vehicle, Concrete Canoe, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Eco Village, Steel Bridge, Robot Swarms, and many more. You will learn how our students are innovating and building.

There are many on-line resources that can also introduce you to the exciting world of engineering - examples are: eGFI: Dream the Future and Discover Engineering.
