Dr. Mouffak (a.k.a Dr. Z) is a professor at the department of electrical and computer engineering. She also serves as the department's graduate coordinator. Dr. Mouffak came as international student from Algeria to the US in 1999 to pursue doctoral studies in electrical engineering, and she obtained her PhD from the University of Houston in 2003, then worked in the semiconductor industry before joining Fresno State in 2011. Dr. Mouffak has been teaching core and senior-level , and graduate courses in the electrical and computer engineering programs. Besides advising graduate students, and involving them in her research, she has been involved in researching best practices in undergraduate teaching and research, and has recently received a $2.5M NSF grant to enhance engineering education for low income students (S-STEM E3UC program 2023-2029). Dr. Mouffak is an enthusiastic advocate for women and minorities’ inclusion in STEM fields of education.
Dr. Mouffak’s research interests are mainly in semiconductor materials and device process technology. She has worked on wide bandgap materials, especially GaN, as well as on porous silicon (P-Si) processing and characterization, and oxides’ electrical and physical properties. She has published in all three areas in refereed journals. With the help of major federal grant she obtained, she established the Materials Device Processing Lab (MADEL), where she has involved students in device fabrication and characterization research.
