Lyles College of Engineering

Leader in Residence

The Leader in Residence program at the Lyles College of Engineering brings accomplished industry leaders to campus for engaging visits that span one to three days, and sometimes longer. These distinguished professionals include CEOs, presidents, vice presidents, division leadership and other senior executives and innovators. They will share their real-world experience, inspire the next generation of engineers, constructors, and architects and create stronger connections between the college and industry.

We are excited to bring Rossana D'Antonio to campus Nov. 17-19, 2025. The civil engineering alumna has led a successful career, including formerly serving as deputy director for Los Angeles County Public Works. As the largest public works agency in the nation, she leveraged her experience in infrastructure design and emergency management to augment her knowledge of how complex systems work and how deficient infrastructures can result in disasters. She now leads NV5 as its executive director and remains a nationally recognized leader in engineering, infrastructure resilience, and public service. In addition to her professional work, she is also the author of the book "26 Seconds".

As part of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Rossana advocates for infrastructure investments including the Federal Aviation Authority Reauthorization. The bill increases funding for aviation infrastructure and advances the safe and efficient delivery of aviation projects.

In 2020, D’Antonio was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists where she currently works to ensure the protection of the public with competent and ethical professional services. In 2024, she was appointed to serve on the President’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council’s Disaster Response and Resiliency Committee. D’Antonio is a Fellow with the American Society of Civil Engineers and is serving as a member of the Board of Directors.

With over 30 years of experience, D'Antonio has shaped sustainable communities, advanced national disaster preparedness, and championed women in STEM, equity and leadership.

More about the Leader in Residence Program

Recognition and Impact

Leaders in Residence receive recognition through Fresno State and LCOE communications, such as newsletters, press releases, website features and community outreach. This visibility highlights the leader's contributions, enhances their organization's presence in the region, and reinforces their commitment to education and workforce development. Executives leave a legacy of mentorship and innovation, while often sparking new opportunities for partnerships in talent development, research and community engagement.

Lasting Impact

By bridging education and industry, the Leader in Residence Program advances LCOE's mission to prepare students to innovate, design and lead. Leaders leave Fresno State with the knowledge that they have made a real impact on students, the profession, and the community, while also forming lasting connections that continue well beyond their time here.
