Construction Management student receives Bluebeam certification
Anne Remlinger is a senior in the Construction Management program in the Lyles College of Engineering and is the first woman in the Fresno State Bluebeam User Group to receive Bluebeam Professional Certification.
Bluebeam is a document editing software that is used throughout the construction industry.
“An example would be, if you’re doing a highway widening, then you can set a depth and take off square footage, and then set a depth, and you can convert that to cubic yards of dirt you need to excavate or you need to fill,” said Remlinger.
The Bluebeam User Group at the Lyles College of Engineering is the TechHub for the Construction Management Department and sponsors the Bluebeam Speaker Series each semester. They also provide Bluebeam Essentials Training to students on how to use the software.
After that, if students are still interested in getting certified, they can sign up for the exam and go through modules that the software company provides. The passing grade for the exam is 80% or higher, according to the Bluebeam website.
“I didn’t pass it on the first try,” Remlinger said. “I know some people who did and that’s pretty impressive but I think it just shows it’s pretty attainable, don’t cut yourself out yet.”
The Bluebeam User Group, or BUG, is a pathway for students to keep up with industry changes and practices. BUG has been active at Fresno State for seven years.
“It’s something I wanted to do as a part of building my portfolio,” Remlinger said. “But I think it’s cool, just hopefully it encourages some other ladies to go get it done.”
She added that she plays a supplementary role in the Bluebeam User Group club, and she mainly fills in when needed.
Remlinger started attending Fresno State in 2020 as a pre-business accounting major. The next summer, she took a construction management class and realized that was where she needed to be. She returned to campus after taking a break during COVID-19.
Construction management isn’t the only thing on Remlinger’s plate, she is also on the Fresno State Track Team as a javelin thrower.
Remlinger said that she relies on Google Calendar and works on prioritizing when juggling a school-sports balance. She walked onto the team during the 23-24 school year and plans on finishing her last season on the team.
Remlinger plans to graduate with her bachelor’s degree next May.
The Fresno State Bluebeam User Group is having a Winter Recruitment for Leadership soon for all new students who want to become leaders in the group. The Bluebeam Essentials Training will be offered again next spring.
