Industrial Advisory Board
The Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) for the Department of Mechanical Engineering is composed of members of the community (industry, government and academe) who are well-wishers of Mechanical Engineering education at California State University, Fresno.
Mission of the Mechanical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board
The IAB's mission is to contribute to the Department's strategic success by focusing on all aspects of departmental operation and its relationship with business and industry.
The Main Charges to Mechanical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board
Charges to the IAB include the following:
• Help the department keep abreast of professional workforce needs and provide meaningful input to the ME program. This process helps improve our education and research programs, making them more relevant to employers as they hire our graduates. This input is part of the ABET accreditation process and provides valuable assessment and evaluation information.
• Help develop maintain the VIP internship program for our students, enabling them to acquire a real world experience in their field of study, before starting their engineering career.
• Help expand and support the professional engineering MSE program, as well as initiate and support joint research projects leading to MSE-ME option theses, especially concentrating in emerging technologies.
• Help define and fund senior design projects. These projects benefit industry as well as the student teams, preferably with multi- and interdisciplinary flavors. Students will present their final projects at thge LCOE Projects Day held on campus at the end of the Spring semester, with students, faculty, industry representatives and parents participating.
• Help improve communication and spread the word about our excellent education and research programs.
• Help raise funds for scholarships (undergraduates), fellowships (graduates) and address other departmental needs (e.g., upgrade lab equipment, develop and maintain a state of the art website, produce a departmental brochure and newsletter).
• Provide important input to the ME Department's strategic planning process, especially when embarking on new initiatives.
Members of the Mechanical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board
The IAB holds two meetings per year, one each during the Fall and Spring semesters. In addition, the IAB keeps in close contact and communicate with the ME Chair and faculty throughout the year, via phone conversations, the web and e-mails. An IAB chair is selected from the membership.
