Message from the Department Chair

Welcome to CM!

Since the inauguration of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management in Spring 1992, our department has built a legacy for excellence in construction education and cultivated generations of industry leaders in the Central Valley and the State of California. The success of our department is fostered through our generous industry sponsors, engaged community partners, award-winning faculty, and dedicated students that have never stopped learning and improving.

As one of the fastest-growing departments on campus, we now have more than 200 students enrolled in three different degree programs, including the Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management (BSCM), Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Studies (BSAS), and Master of Science degree in Construction Management. Nearly 40 students graduate from the department per academic year with 90%+ job placement rates and an average of two job offers per student at the time of graduation. The department also collaborates with the Continuing and Global Education on a Construction Management Professional Development (CMPD) certification program that provides continuing education and lifelong learning to local and regional professionals to boost their career growth.

The world we’re living in today continues to evolve, and our department responds with robust curricula that feature reinforced experiential learning and state-of-the-art educational technology to enhance students’ competency and career preparedness. The department mandates an internship program for both BSCM and BSAS degrees, integrates hands-on learning design and construction lab activities in a dedicated outdoor construction yard and modernized architecture studio, and adopt Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) technology in teaching and learning in a cutting-edge Digital Building and Integration (DBI) lab. By committing more than 1,000 hours of service-learning to the local community, the CM department also encourages students to pursue excellence in both academic and professional arenas.

We are excited that with our outstanding students, extraordinary faculty, dedicated staff, and generous industry partners, the CM department can provide you with one of the most innovative, challenging, rewarding, and overall the best-value architecture and construction management education experiences.
