Architectural Studies program coordinator receives Provost Award
The Lyles College of Engineering congratulates Michele Randel for receiving the 2022-2023 Provost Award for Outstanding Lecturer. Michele is the Program Coordinator for the new Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies. It has grown to over 140 students within the first 3 years of implementation. She has been working with local Industry members and faculty colleagues to create a pre-professional degree that leads to licensure as an architect.
Michele is currently working on research started under the Extended Reality Faculty Learning Community (XR-FLC). It aims to design, implement, and evaluate Active Learning in Introductory STEM Courses with XR (ALIS-XR) as an exemplary model to improve student learning outcomes, narrow achievement gaps for students, especially underrepresented minority (URM) students. She is studying the effects of the implementation of Virtual Reality during the design process to promote spatial awareness in lower-division Architectural Studies students.
