Type of Hold  Description  How to clear the Hold
2nd Semester Freshman Advising Hold  All freshmen are required to have an academic advising session in spring before registering for their fall classes. Around the fourth week of the semester, a registration hold will be placed on your student center as a reminder to meet with your assigned Faculty Advisor. 
1st Semester Transfer Hold All transfer students are required to have an academic advising session during their first semester in order to register for the following semester. Around the fourth week of the semester, a registration hold will be placed on your student center as a reminder to meet with your assigned Faculty Advisor. 
Academic Probation Reg Hold  Undergraduate students whose GPA falls below a 2.0 will be required to have academic advising to discuss the requirements needed to maintain enrollment at Fresno State.  A hold will be placed on the student center as a reminder to complete the required advising. Please contact the LCOE Advising Center to receive more information. 
ASC Probation Hold  (Academic Success Coaching) First-time freshman students (0-29 units earned) admitted Fall 2021 and Fall 2022 cohort who have been placed on Probation will need to meet with Academic Success Coaching.  The Academic Success Coaching staff will reach out and provide information on how to fulfill this requirement. 
Mandatory Advising Hold  ALL STUDENTS must meet with their advisor before completing 60 units. After completing 60 units you will see a registration block indicator ("MA") and will not be able to register for classes until you visit your assigned Faculty Advisor for advising.

Advising is mandatory in the Lyles College of Engineering. A registration hold will be placed on students who fail to see their advisor at least once per academic year. A hold will be placed on the student center as a reminder to meet with their assigned Faculty Advisor. 
Super Senior Hold  Students who have earned over 130 units may have this hold.  A hold will be placed on the student center as a reminder to meet with their assigned Faculty Advisor. 
Immunization Requirement  Starting Spring 2022 all incoming students will need to submit proof of immunizations and a TB Screening Questionnaire in accordance with CSU Executive Order 803.  A hold will be placed on your student center and you will not be able to register for your second semester classes. If you have any questions, contact the Student Health and Counseling Center at (559) 278-2734. 
Violence Awareness Training  All students enrolled in courses at Fresno State are required to take Title IX online training every academic year.  The deadline to complete the training is February 15, 2023. Failure to complete the training by the deadline will result in a hold on your student account and access to your student portal will be blocked. 

How can I be eligible to register for Math 75: Calculus?

In order to enroll into MATH 75 (Calculus I) at Fresno State, a student must take the ALEKS PPL and place into the course or meet the pre-requisites. A student’s score on the placement exam will determine which course they are recommended to enroll in.

I am a First Time Freshman and noticed I am already enrolled in some courses, why is this?

Students in the Lyles College of Engineering are participating in First Time Freshmen Block Schedules. This will guarantee you are taking classes required for your major and help you connect with others in similar majors.

Can I take courses at a community college and transfer the credit to Fresno State?

Yes! A useful resource in identifying equivalent courses that transfer to Yes! A useful resource in identifying equivalent courses that transfer to Fresno State from community colleges is Assist.org. For further assistance, please schedule an appointment with the LCOE Advising Center to discuss your options and assure the courses you plan to take will count toward your degree.

I plan on taking a course for a third time, but it does not let me enroll into it. What do I need to do?

In order to take a course for a third time at Fresno State, you must receive approval from your major department and complete the Third Attempt Request Form. You can find the form and instruction on the University Registrar’s Office website.

What is a Degree Progress Report (DPR) and how do I access it?

A Degree Progress Report (DPR) is a summary of a student’s progress on their degree, noting all courses completed both at Fresno State and transferred. It summarizes what courses apply to which required section in order to assure all graduation requirements are/will be met. You can access your DPR through your student center. Under “My Academic Records and Registration”  you will find a list of hyperlinks, one which is “Degree Progress Report.” This will take you to your DPR. How do I create a My Degree Plan?

You can create a My Degree Plan online through your student center. You can cross reference your DPR and make sure all degree requirements are planned for! Be sure to review your major roadmap and prerequisites as you create a plan. For further assistance and reviewing of your plan, schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor at LCOE Advising Center. 

How can I check my grades?

You can find your final semester grades posted in your student center under “My Academic Records and Registration” → “My Grades” link on the left-hand side. Here, you can check final grades for each semester individually. You can also see a summary of all final grades on your transcript through the “My Transcripts” link right below the grade's link.

How can I switch into an engineering major?

In order to switch into a major in the college of engineering, you must have completed a specific set of courses and maintained a certain GPA. Each major may vary, and it is advised you meet with an advisor to discuss these requirements. Once courses and requirements are completed, the next step will be to complete the Change of Major Request.

How do I switch out of engineering into a different major?

If you are interested in switching out of the engineering major, you do not need approval from our office to switch out of the major. If you are unsure about what major you want to be in and want to further explore your options, you can switch to being “Undeclared” through the University Advising Center. For further career and major exploration, you can also schedule an appointment with the Career Development Center.

If you have already decided on what major you want to switch into, you can schedule an appointment with the respective college advising center to discuss the change of major, and review prerequisites (if any). What is Probation?

A student is placed on Academic Probation if their campus and/or total GPA falls below a 2.0. Based on a student’s amount of units completed.

A student is on Probation: Disqualification Range if their GPA is below a 2.0 and in the disqualification range as presented in the student level chart. Students must bring GPA above the disqualification range the following semester in order to continue at Fresno State.

A student will remain on probation until their campus and cumulative GPA are both a 2.0 or higher.

What does it mean to be Readmitted on Probation?

A student who has been academically disqualified from Fresno State previously, has reapplied and has been admitted again will remain on probation until they no longer have a campus and cumulative GPA below a 2.0. Students who are readmitted on probation must earn a 2.5 GPA each term in order to continue into the following semester.
