Master of Science Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering
Master of Science Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MS-ECE) provides students with advanced engineering education in Electrical or Computer Engineering. The overarching goal of the program is to enhance the students' ability to be successful and advance in their chosen careers in industry, academia, and public instruction. The program provides opportunities for integration and cross areas of electrical and computer engineering. Students are able to pursue research and projects in the following areas of interest, with the possibility of blending areas:
- Computer Architecture and Embedded Systems
- Control Systems and Robotics
- High Frequency Electronics
- Power Systems and Power Electronics
- VLSI System Design
- Semiconductor Devices
- Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning
- Computer Networking
The goals of graduate program are:
- Enhance the students' understanding of advanced theoretical and practical concepts in engineering.
- Allow students to achieve an appropriate level of competence in solving practical problems.
- Develop students' critical thinking skills necessary for mastering new topics related to the advances in engineering.
- Allow students to acquire substantive knowledge that will permit them to pursue advanced academic or industrial work.
The MS-ECE degree requires advanced studies in electrical and computer engineering with the completion of a minimum of 30-units total, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, culminated by a thesis, a project or a comprehensive examination based on the following:
MS-ECE Degree (30 units program)

|A. ENGR 200: Seminar in Engineering (1)|
|B. ECE 201: Systems Modeling and Realization (2)|
|C. Three courses from:
ECE 224, ECE 230, ECE 231, ECE 240, ECE 241, ECE 242, ECE 243, ECE 245, ECE 253, ECE 274, ECE 278 (9)
|Choose from the following (12-18 units)|
|A. Up to six units may be taken from ECE 100-level courses; which are not required for a BS degree in the ECE Department|
|B. Up to six units of 200-level courses in program related subjects (Business, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Sciece) may be taken with the Graduate Coordinator's approval.|
|C. 200-level ECE courses (Course prerequisites must have been completed before enrolling in the course).|
Culminating Experience (0-6 units)

Admission Summary Requirements
- An applicant must have a degree equivalent to a four-year U.S. baccalaureate degree from an accredited program in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a bachelor's degree from an accredited engineering, natural science, or other appropriate program.
- A GPA of at least 3.0 for the last 60 semester units (90 quarter units) prior to entry in the MSE programs is required.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) quantitative score of 150.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- A minimum score of 80 Internet-based TOEFL score for foreign students.
