NSF NeTs Bulldog Mote Project

Broader Impact

Fresno State is a Hispanic, Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander Serving-Institution. A majority of our students (68%) are first generation college students, and a majority comes from the disadvantaged areas.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department at Fresno State is strong in terms of diversity, and has a strong commitment to attract more female and minority students, often recruiting and reaching out to underrepresented high school students in the area through organized workshops and summer schools. Moreover, integrating education and outreach with this project will lead to:

  1. Efficient mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students in a team-centric environment
  2. Interdisciplinary research collaborations
  3. High-school outreach activities to expose many new students, including those from underrepresented groups, to engineering and electronic systems.

The results will be disseminated in a number of national and international journals, conferences, and workshops. The design projects will be demonstrated and relevant multidisciplinary courses will be developed, and the research in progress will be demonstrated during engineering open house tours and summer camps to recruit students.
