Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

The communities at California State University, Fresno, including the Civil Engineering Program, celebrate and welcome individuals of diverse backgrounds. Recognizing that each individual student has had a unique lived experience, overcoming various barriers and challenges, to get to our Program, we, faculty of Civil Engineering Program, are committed to fostering and maintaining a fair and equal, adhering to the policies established by the University (e.g., Student Rights and Responsibilities policy), to maximize student success, by providing:

  • An equal playing field for all students that supports acceptance and fairness at all facets of student affairs (JUSTICE).
  • Equitable access and opportunities allowing all students to advance and flourish so (you) can be proud & dignified of the advancement achieved (EQUITY).
  • A space that not only celebrates (your) uniqueness, and also respects and values (your) thoughts, without marginalization, as a means of enriching knowledge and critical thinking (DIVERSITY).
  • A setting in which all members (you and all your peers) respect, support, and appreciate others (INCLUSION).

Action Items, in alignment with ABET Pilot General Criteria for Curriculum and Faculty, include:

Criterion 5 – Curriculum: Specific to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion “content that ensures awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion for professional practice consistent with the institution’s mission”

Criterion 6 – Faculty: Specific to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion “The program faculty must also demonstrate knowledge of applicable institutional policies on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and demonstrate awareness appropriate to providing an equitable and inclusive environment for its students that respects the institution’s mission.”
